Group Trainings


The Associated Advocacy Center offers group trainings on any of the topics mentioned below. All trainings last from 2-3 hours and include handouts, as well as a question and answer period. To book a training please download and complete our Training Intake Packet and mail it in. Upon receipt, we will contact you to schedule a date.

 

Trainings Currently Offered:

Autism/PDD/Aspergers: An overview on all aspects of Autism including but not limited to -behavior, accommodations, modifications, services, and education laws (training conducted with materials provided by Mass Advocates for Children)

Behavior: Zero Tolerance, Suspension, Exclusion, Expulsion - MA Law 37H ½; procedural safeguards according to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act 2004, and the student’s rights in typical educational settings and vocational schools.

Bullying: Training features discussion of a student’s rights under Section 504 and the Civil Rights Laws that protect a student who has been identified with a disability.  We will discuss how to design a safety plan to present to the school, in a team meeting with the goal of keeping a child safe.

Court Advocacy: School to Prison Pipeline and Juvenile court rights will be discussed.  Specific cases will be reviewed.  Questions and answers will be a focus of this presentation, with an overview of the education laws that affect children in court. 

Cultural Competency: Providing training to help groups understand differences between cultures, we will open discussion about the origins of racism in the United States and how that translated into the

Educational System: We will teach you how to be a part of the change that needs to happen now.

Disabilities 102: Specific types of disabilities identified by the Department of Education, accommodations, modifications, services, and evaluations needed will be reviewed and discussed.

Grandparents & Guardians: How to provide the best education for the precious life you have been blessed to take care of.  Children don’t come with manuals, navigating the maze of education.

IEP Review: Bring your child’s IEP and meet with an Educational Consultant to determine if it is appropriate to the needs of your child.  Please call to book an appointment.

IEP vs. 504 Plan: Which one is appropriate?  Training features discussion of the differences between accommodations and modifications while answering questions about school personnel responsibility.

Special Education Laws: IDEA with an emphasis on procedural safeguards; team meetings; mediation; and hearing comparison.
